Jackson has recorded its 24th homicide as of Wednesday night, police say.

According to Jackson Police Department spokesman Sam Brown, at around 11:05 p.m., Jackson Police Robbery/Homicide Unit responded to the Fast Fill Gas station at 2971 Northside Drive. When they got there, they found Chaz Porter in the parking lot suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest.

Evidence gathered on scene revealed the victim was shot by a black male suspect in a white Ford F-150 truck, wearing a blue hoodie. The man had attempted to rob him, police say.

Porter was transported by AMR to the University of Mississippi Medical Center, where he died shortly after.

At approximately 1:00 a.m. this morning, Drevion Gross was dropped off at the UMMC hospital suffering from a gunshot wound to the right arm. Gross stated he was shot at the location of 3061 Terry Road but police say he was actually shot at the Fast Fill.

He was taken in custody at the hospital and after being treated for his gunshot wounds was transported to the City of Jackson Holding Facility.

Gross is being charged with Capital Murder.

The Robbery/Homicide Unit is also looking for a person of interest involved in the shooting and murder. You can see his photo at the top of this page. If anyone knows this person, you’re asked to contact JPD or call Crime Stoppers at 601-960-1234 or 601-355-TIPS (8477).
